RFO: Big Guns 15
With the RFO‘s return to Mansfield less taking place this weekend, one minor detail had yet to be settled for Big Guns 15: who will be the main event?
With a pair of equally popular fighters both hailing from Mansfield slated to compete in equally pivotal bouts on the card, RFO promoter Matt Trukovich decided to come up with a friendly competition to decide which fighter would get his name first on the marquee and have the honor of fighting last at the event.
Josh Longood (1-0) and Mike Williams (2-2) both laid equal claim to main event status, so something had to be done to decide a headliner.
So what better way is there for a pair of fighters to show their prowess than video bowling, darts, and poker?
Longood came out swinging hard, winning the bowling portion of the contest with two strikes and a spare. “The Honeybadger” also got out to a strong start in the darts portion, but he couldn’t close out and allowed “Karate Mike” the opportunity to make a miraculous comeback to even things up. Then came the Texas Hold ‘Em poker portion, where Williams started out with a stronger hand, but Longood made the comeback to get the win and secure main event status for himself on March 21.
Longood will take on Jeff Mack (0-0, 11-3 am) in what will serve as the main event, while Williams is set to take on Bellator veteran Dustin Kempf (6-8) in the night’s co-feature.
Both fights are excellent matchups, and Trukovich even hinted that Longood and Williams themselves could square off inside the RFO cage one day.
So with the top two fights set, a total of four pro bouts are now on the docket for Big Guns 15, as flyweights Cody Gabelman (2-1) and Dennis Brown (3-1), as well as heavyweights Jeff Hughes (1-0) and Leviticus Roberson (1-1) will also square off.
On the amateur side of things, Aaron Neighbors (10-6) will defend his RFO bantamweight title against challenger Rich Cantolina (11-7).
RFO: Big Guns 15 takes place on March 21 at the Richland County Fairgrounds in Mansfield, Ohio.
