Undefeated Jamal Mohammed is set to defend his title against Nick Carter

Jamal Mohammed

This weekend at Turf Wars 22, undefeated featherweight champion Jamal Mohammed will defend his title for the first time. He will not have an easy task ahead of him as he is set to face the promotions top contender in Nick Carter. The two will be featured on the amateur side of the event that takes place at Turfway Park in Florence, Kentucky.

Mohammed picked up the featherweight title earlier this year when submitted Blayne Hodges in the first round. It was a huge win for the Four Season fighter; probably the biggest of his career. Hodges came into the fight on a five-fight winning streak and had only lost one fight in nine outings.

It was the second title that Mohammed earned in just as many fights. Before picking up the Turf Wars title, he ventured down to the Volunteer state where he went the distance to earn the 3FC featherweight title. The Lexington, Kentucky native is on the upswing of his career right now, and he can cement himself at the top of the division.

Of course, there is one person standing in his way- Nick Carter. With a rocky start to his fighting career, Carter was able to bounce back after dropping his first two fights. The Team Demon fighter earned his shot after he picked up three straight victories under the Turf Wars banner. All of the wins have come by way of stoppage.

With one of three titles on the line at Turf Wars 22, this match-up might be the most intriguing of them. Hear me out for a second as I explain. One of the things I like about Carter, and one that makes him an entertaining fighter is his never-quit attitude. The few times that I saw him competing, I noticed he was willing to leave it all in the cage- even if it meant losing.

That type of style can pose a huge threat to any fighter, even highly talented fighters like Mohammed. Looking at this fight from an outside perspective, I think it favors the champion as he looks to keep his record blemish free. With less than two years of experience in the sport, Mohammed is quickly making a name for himself. Only time will tell if he can maintain his current momentum.
