UFC Odds – How to read them
If you are familiar with sports betting, then you should feel right at home when betting on a UFC fight. However, if you happen to be a UFC fan / follower without much sports betting experience, here is how UFC odds work.
Let us assume a hypothetical fight in the lightweight division between Tony Ferguson and Brazilian Edson Barboza. Being a UFC fan, you may have some knowledge and insights on how the fight could turn out, and so you decide to put your knowledge to use and make some profits by betting on the fight. You go to an online bookie and see the odds for the fight, published as below –
Edson Barboza +130
Tony Ferguson -150
First, what you need to understand is that as per the odds, the favorite to win is denoted by the minus or negative (-) symbol and the underdog, Edson Barboza in this case, is represented by the plus or positive (+) symbol.
Secondly, the numbers shown in the odds essentially are based on punters wagering $100. So, in the above example, if you were to wager $100 on Barboza winning then you could win $130 and in the case of the favorite you will need to lay down $150 in order to win $100. This does not mean that you can only wager $100 bets, you can bet any amount (within the particular bookie’s minimum and maximum range) and the return will be proportionately calculated.
