Ohio Combat League 5
Ohio Combat League 5 kicks off the 2020 MMA schedule tonight in Columbus, Ohio, as the event goes down at Express Live.
Ten bouts are set for the event, including five in the pro ranks. The main event will be for the professional middleweight title between Travis Davis (8-3) and John Poppie (9-5).
After back-to-back losses in 2018, Davis bounced back in 2019 with a pair of wins under the OCL banner. First, he defeated Tavae Lewis in the promotion’s debut event in May, then earned a decision over Robert Gidron at OCL 2 in August. Seven of his wins are via stoppage, including five submissions. He’s ranked as the No. 2 pro middleweight in Ohio according to Tapology.
Poppie fights out of Wisconsin and has competed in notable organizations like RFA, CES MMA, and Pinnacle Combat. He was a contestant on The Ultimate Fighter 19 but failed to make it into the house, and he competed for the RFA title in a loss against Andrew Sanchez in 2015. Most recently, he returned from a two-year layoff to top Chad Vance at Elite Fight League 5 in May. He’s ranked as the No. 2 pro light heavyweight in Iowa.
The two Central Ohio natives are no strangers, as they squared off in a boxing bout in August with Leisure winning via third round TKO.
Leisure is 4-0 in his pro boxing career with 3 KO’s after taking a break from MMA to focus on the sweet science. His last MMA bout was in March 2018, when he submitted Tray Taylor via guillotine at Alliance MMA. He’s earned five stoppages since making his pro debut in 2013 and is ranked as the No. 3 pro bantamweight in Ohio according to Tapology.
Dulaney comes in looking to once again show off his knockout power after stopping Yohe Rojas with a vicious left hook at OCL 4 in November. He has a pro boxing record of 5-10-3 with 1 KO and looks for redemption against Leisure here. He’s the No. 11 ranked pro featherweight in Ohio.
A former track star at Ohio State, Comer tried his hand at promoting as well as fighting in 2019. He comes in looking for his first win since 2017, when he stopped Ryan Walls via TKO at IT Fight Series 71 followed by a TKO win over Bradley Schott at IT Fight Series 73. His most recently bout was a loss against Ryan Pokryfky at IT Fight Series 85 last January. He’s the No. 10 ranked pro heavyweight in Ohio according to Tapology.
Weaver comes from Michigan where he is the No. 14 ranked pro heavyweight. He most recently competed in October 2018, when he stopped Charles Brown via TKO at Big John’s MMA.
Richwine turned pro last January after an 8-5 amateur run, but he had just one win in his four fights last year. That win came via decision against Marquis Allen at Signature Combat Sports, the event that was promoted by Comer.
Orsbone makes his pro debut after a 9-4 amateur career that started all the way back in 2010. Five of his wins came via submission and he ended on a three-fight winning streak. He competes for the first time since March 2018 and is ranked as the No. 5 amateur heavyweight in Ohio.
Also set is a bantamweight bout featuring Andre Small (1-0) vs. Javier Coronado (1-0).
Small picked up a win in his pro debut at Ohio Combat League 3, topping Greg Spearman via split decision. He also posted an 8-4 amateur record after making his debut in 2014.
Coronado looks for his second pro win as well after a TKO victory over Travis Crain at Pure FC 15 in November. He posted an 8-0-1 amateur record.
In the amateur main event, Nick Foxhuber (9-3-1) returns to action for the first time since a loss against Ryan Santana in July 2018 to face Taylor Adair (3-2).
