Tennessee native Nate Landwehr (10-2) returns to Russia this weekend, as he battles for the featherweight title in the main event at M-1 Challenge 95.
The SSF Submission Academy product will challenge Khamzat Dalgiev (10-1) for the 145-pound title at the event, which takes place in Ingushetia, Russia.
“The Train” has quickly become a fan favorite in M-1, posting victories over Mikhail Korobkov and Viktor Kolesnik in his first two outings for the promotion. He has quickly become a fan favorite in Russia for his exciting fighting style where he constantly moves forward. It’s a style that is well-known to his fans stateside, but it has quickly garnered him attention on the world stage. Landwehr has won four straight bouts following a loss against Mark Cherico in 2015. He has a total of six wins via (T)KO.
“I’m looking forward to my title shot it and can’t wait,” Landwehr said. “Reminds me of the movie ROCKY IV. Fans will get a show they will never forget. Many Russian fans do love me and message me personally on social networks saying, I put on the best fights they have seen and thank me for it. My main job is to make believers!”
Dalgiev won the featherweight title with a knockout win over Ivan Buchinger at M-1 Challenge 86 in November. After losing his pro debut, he’s won ten straight bouts, including three via (T)KO and five via submission. The 26-year-old holds a 6-1 record under the M-1 Challenge banner.
“I expect a highly motivated man ready to do whatever it takes to keep that title, fighting in front of his fans and in his home country, but it won’t be enough to defeat me,” Landwehr said. “This has Fight of the Year written all over it, followed by Knockout of the Night for me. I am willing to walk through hell to become a world champion and nothing can stop me right now. I’m a man on a mission that started with a boy and his dream.”
Landwehr’s SSF teammate Edward Massey (4-2) will also compete at the event, as he faces Mate Sanikidze (4-0) in a bantamweight bout.
Fans can stream M-1 Challenge 95 on Fite TV beginning at 4:30am ET on Saturday for $7.99.
