On Monday October 13th Molly Dupertuis spoke to the women of ProWMMA Now! about a fight she has lined up for November 22nd. Molly Dupertuis (2-2) will meet Nichole Rainey in Nashville, Tenessee for V3 Fights.
It will be just over 20 months since Molly has last stepped into the cage. In her last fight she suffered a shoulder injury that had left her unable to train properly. According to Dupertuis after her last fight she was preparing for the Hook N Shoot tournament ignoring a shoulder issue she was having until it became unavoidable.
“My shoulder completely collapsed and didn’t work for like two months We thought it was just dislocated and had went back in wrong because I couldn’t use it”
Dupertuis went on to explain without much detail that she has seen doctors over the course of the year and unfortunately several issue all related to the shoulder injury have kept her unable to accept a fight.
After describing what has kept her out of the cage for the last 20 months Dupertuis became emotional when telling the ProWMMA Now! Host her future plans for her career in MMA. When asked about pursuing a professional career she said,
“I would love to go Pro but I cant do it anymore. This is my last fight at all.”
When asked her thoughts about the fight against Nicole Rainey, Dupertuis didn’t have much to say in an assessment of her opponent. Given that this is her last fight she feels she’s ready win or lose to just give it her all.
“I haven’t looked up an video on her and its nothing personal.I just know where im at since its my last fight, I cant fight after this and I know what I am physically able to do and especially what Im not able do. My biggest thing is to get through it. I can’t change anything with what I can and cant do”
Dupertuis will make the fight against Rainey her retirement fight and is remaining optimistic. She feels this will give her closure to her career after struggling with not knowing if she would ever be able to compete again. She had this to say about the fight,
“I’m open minded to a win or loss. I need this for me and give back to those who’ve supported me and I need that closure.”
Dupertuis plans to remain active helping corner and coach other fighters in her gym and remain active as a martial artist despite being unable to pursue a career fighting.
