Mark Cherico is set to be the inaugural inductee into the Pinnacle Fighting Championships Hall of Fame, as “The Pride” will receive the honor at Pinnacle FC 16 on March 24.

Cherico has competed for his hometown promotion nine times, posting an 8-1 record. He headlined the promotion’s first three events from 2012-13, winning the featherweight title at Pinnacle FC 3 by defeating UFC veteran Donny Walker. He also headlined five more events, and recently posted wins over D’Juan Owens and Antonio Castillo Jr. under the Pinnacle banner.

The most recent time Cherico competed was last summer, when he was knocked out by Mike Santiago at Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series #7. He dealt with injuries leading into the bout and just recently resumed training for a potential return to the cage sometime this year.

“You know you’re getting old when people start giving you plaques to commemorate your services,” Cherico joked. “But in all seriousness it’s really cool to be honored by an organization that I was always proud to be apart of. I had a lot to memorable fights in the Pinnacle FC cage. A lot of my blood, sweat & even some tears were shed in that cage. Learned a lot about myself and my opponents. I always stepped in that cage and gave it my all. I always wanted to entertain the fans and make sure my fight alone was worth the price of admission.”

“So to sum it up the best I think Calvin Coolidge had a great quote about being honored and I hope that when people think of my past fights in Pinnacle FC they share this view: ‘No person was ever honored for what he received. Honor has been the reward for what he gave.’”

The full fight card for Pinnacle FC 16 is expected to be announced soon, but the only bout set thus far is a light heavyweight title tilt featuring Dalton Rosta taking on Trenton Zdarko.
