Rivers Rumble MMA

Noted boxing promotion Made Men Promotions is set to host its first mixed martial arts event in Pittsburgh, and multiple fighters with strong ties to the Steel City will be in action at Rivers Rumble IX on July 14th. The outdoor event takes place at Rivers Casino on Pittsburgh’s North Shore.

The Academy MMA’s Khama Worthy (10-6) will square off against Brady Hovermale (11-7) in one lightweight bout, while Stout Training’s Mike Wilkins (8-4) will face Eric Vo (15-17) in another 155-pound contest.

Worthy has been a mainstay competing in Pittsburgh since his pro debut in 2012. He’s competed 10 times in his hometown, mostly for the Pinnacle FC promotion, where he holds a 8-1 record. Most recently, he snapped a two-fight losing streak by topping Mike Roberts at Pinnacle FC 16 in March. He’ll come in looking to put aside a major distraction, as the gym he owns in Pittsburgh – The Academy – recently suffered major flooding. He’s ranked as the No. 6 pro lightweight in Pennsylvania by Tapology.

Hovermale is an Indiana native who has competed twice in Western Pennsylvania before, losing against Mark Cherico in 2014 and topping Justin Steave in 2015. He’s competed just twice since September 2015, posing a 1-1 record. His last outing was a loss against Jose Mariscal at Hooiser Fight Club 33 in April 2017. He’s ranked as the No. 9 pro featherweight in Indiana.

A one-time Bellator MMA veteran, “Iron City” Wilkins fights in his hometown for the first time since 2015, when he lost to Rob Hanna at Gladitors of the Cage 7. He also competed four times for CFFC, and most recently topped Brett Martinez at Bellator 186 last November. He’s ranked as the No. 8 pro lightweight in Pennsylvania.

Vo is a native of Iowa who has had a mix of success in his 10-year pro career. He’s mostly competed for the Pinnacle Combat promotion in his home state, including his most recent outing in April, where he lost via TKO against Ramiro Hernandez Jr. He’s ranked as the No. 5 pro featherweight in Iowa.

Other pro bouts on the card feature Josh Fremd (2-1) vs. Andre Hall (1-0) at middleweight, Chris McKinney (0-1) vs. Jonas Rubiano (0-1) at bantamweight, and John Antanitis (1-1) vs. Donelei Benedetto (2-2) at middleweight.

The amateur card will be headlined by a light heavyweight title bout featuring Dalton Rosta (5-0) vs. Devon Williams (4-0).
