Pinnacle FC 11: Mazzotta vs. Webb
The lineup has been finalized for this weekend’s Pinnacle FC 11: Mazzotta vs. Webb event, which goes down at the Iceoplex in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania just outside of Pittsburgh on Saturday. The organization recently releazed the finalized card on Tapology.com, where you can make picks for the fights.
In the main event, local favorite Dominic Mazzotta (7-1) is set to take on South Carolina’s Varon Webb (7-2) for the vacant Pinnacle FC bantamweight title. Former champion and current UFC star Cody Garbrandt will be on hand to crown the new champion.
“The Honey Badger” Mazzotta comes into the bout on a four-fight winning streak, incluiding his most recent victory over Tim Goodwin in his Pinnacle FC debut in May. The 28-year-old is nearing the top of nearly every “top prospect” list in the country and appears destined for a shot in the big-show with a win here. His only career loss came to Garbrandt, and five of his other six wins have come via stoppage, including five submissions.
“Mighty Moe” Webb has won two straight and comes in looking to steal the hometown favorite’s thunder. He most recently competed just over a month ago, when he earned a unanimous decison over DeMarcus Holmes at Conflict 29 in late July.
The co-main event features unbeaten local favorite Nick Browne (4-0) looking to advance his perfect record against Virginia native Caleb McAllister (3-1). Browne will make his first Pinnacle FC apperance since his pro debut, but in the meantime he picked up the fastest knockout in World Series of Fighting history and then two other wins to now sit at 4-0. Most recently, he earned a split decision over Cameron VanCamp in July.
McAllister has won three bouts in a row via submission after dropping his pro debut in 2010. Most recently, he choked out Robert Fabrizi at CFFC 43 last November.
The night’s third pro bout will feature a pair of top featherweight prospects making their debuts. Both Chris Mitchell (0-0, 4-2 am) and Tobiaus Taylor (0-0, 6-1) won amateur titles in top organizations and now look to hit the ground running as pros. Mitchell closed out his amateur career with a dominant victory over Treg Wells in May to claim the Pinnacle FC lightweight title. After a layoff of more than two years and a title under his belt, he’s now ready to make his debut in the featherweight class.
Taylor, the younger brother of experienced pros Torrance Taylor and Tiawan Howard, makes his pro debut after winning the NAAFS featherwight title last year. The 22-year-old knocked out Adli Edwards in the second round to close out his amateur career and now looks to pick up his first win as a pro.
The amateur card is highlighted by the return of Dave Gabig (6-3) after a four-year absence from the cage, as he is set to take on fast-rising New York native Sean Felton (4-2). Also on the amateur portion of the card is Kyle Holt (2-1), the younger brother of Bellator MMA veteran Joey Holt.
