John De Jesus vs Josh Rohler
John De Jesus (12-8) is now the Honor Fighting Championship featherweight champion, as he knocked out Josh Rohler (5-4) with a Superman punch in the second round of their co-main event at Honor FC 12 on Saturday night in Millersburg, Ohio.
De Jesus showed his usual confidence in the bout, landing strikes early and often. He started strong in the first round, continually landing the Superman punch and kicks against Rohler. Rohler appeared to be more comfortable in the standup, but a failed takedown attempt midway through the first round seemed to cement the fact that the fight would be contested on the feet.
De Jesus cracked Rohler with a left head kick that landed flush near the end of the round, but the local product walked right through it, and actually landed a takedown as the final seconds of the first round ticked away.
“El Platano” began to open up in the second frame, again landing a left hand that dropped Rohler. Rohler once again recovered, but De Jesus kept the pressure high landing counters. Halfway through the second round, De Jesus landed yet another Superman punch that put Rohler’s lights out to end the fight.
It was a memorable knockout that will be on highlight reels for years to come.
After the bout, the Pittsburgh product De Jesus talked about turning his career around since training at The Academy MMA. He’s now 8-3 in his last 11 bouts, and called on Dana White and Sean Shelby to offer him a spot in the UFC.
