Chuck O’Neil vs. Dom Steele headlined CES MMA 29
Dom Steele (13-5) went into enemy territory and did exactly what he said he was going to do.
The Cincinnati native traveled to Rhode Island for CES MMA XXIX, where he picked up an upset victory over champion Chuck O’Neil (15-7) in the main event that aired on AXS TV.
Steele controlled nearly all of the entire five round fight, earning scores of 48-47, 48-47, and 49-46 to pick up his seventh win in eight outings. Steele promised to grind out a victory, and he did just that. Using his wrestling and straight forward punching style, he survived a great first round from O’Neil, who had promised a first round stoppage. The tide turned when he didn’t get it, and the rest of the fight belonged to Steele.
Also in action in the co-main event was Ohio Valley fighter Khama Worthy (7-4), who was knocked out by Matt Bessette (15-6) in the second round. The highlight reel knockout put the Pittsburgh fighter to sleep, but the fight was the clear fight of the night leading up to that point, and Worthy had been in control landing big shots before Bessette finally found the range for his overhand right.
