Ohio native Dan Spohn (18-5) has clinched a spot in the 2018 PFL playoffs, as he earned a technical decision over Artur Alibulatov at PFL 5 last night in New York.
The fight went to the scorecards and was a technical decision with scores of 30-26, 29-27, and 29-27 after Alibulatov repeatedly landed low blows to Spohn and the fight was stopped in the third round.
“Dragon” is currently sitting in the third spot in the rankings with 7 points, trailing only Vinny Magalhaes (12 points) and Maxim Grishin (11 points). Sean O’Connell (5 points) has also clinched a playoff spot, with four more light heavyweight regular season bouts set to go down at PFL 7 on August 30.
Spohn has won six straight bouts and is 10-1 since appearing on The Ultimate Fighter 19 in 2014. He has a dozen wins via stoppage, including 7 via knockout or TKO.
The PFL playoffs begin in October with the finals on New Year’s Eve.
