Stanford vs. Sandefur
A couple minutes around Charles Stanford and you know he’s a good kid. Big smiles and hugs is how he greets you. That persona leaves when he steps in the cage though. He is a young bantamweight on the rise and was in for a tough fight against Derby City MMA’s Brandon Sandefur on Saturday night in Louisville. A great night of fights would be capped off with two guys looking to get back on the winning track.
Just as Kentucky basketball fans were rejoicing after a big win, Stanford and Sandefur took to the cage. Honestly, I thought this fight would go at least into the third round if not go all fifteen minutes. I was wrong. Sandefur was able to pressure Stanford early, get him against the cage and get him down. That didn’t last long though as the G-Force product was able to get to his feet. He rocked Sandefur and was able to finish him off with some brutal knees to the body. Sandefur tapped out to the strikes less than two minutes into the fight.
This was a big win for Stanford who was coming off a tough loss and recovering from an injury. He actually replaced his teammate Cody Gabelman in this fight on just a few weeks notice. Sometimes those chances don’t play out well but for the now 5-2 Stanford it worked out for the best. Sandefur was one of the top bantamweights in the region and now Stanford has inserted his name back into the conversation.
